Wedding Décor Do’s and Don’ts – Part 2

Wedding décor is the most time-consuming part of the wedding planning process. It’s also one area of your wedding that has the most impact on your guests. Ensuring that your wedding decor dream translates well in reality means having a firm grasp of the basics.

Whether you’re hiring a wedding planner or going the do-it-yourself route we look at six wedding décor do’s and don’ts in this two-part post.

Don’t expose table legs

If you have chosen to have tablecloths make sure they are full length, meaning they go all the way to the floor. A table with linens that are too short looks tacky so no matter how lovely your tables are if you’ve chosen to have them covered do a proper job.

Do consider lighting

Lighting can add some extra flair to your décor so do take extra care when selecting your lighting.  Use light to create an ambiance or highlight and hide elements of your décor and venues as needed. Ensure that your entertainment, dance floor and tables are sufficiently lit.  Avoid harsh fluorescent lighting and incorporate candles wherever you can for a warm, whimsical feel.

Don’t go overboard with the flowers

Take it easy with the flowers. There’s a fine line between tasteful and tacky so tread carefully. Too many flowers can detract from what is going on and certain blooms can overpower the taste of the food due to their strong scents. Walk your florist through your ceremony and reception space so they can get a feel for what will work best.
